CBM Calculator

Calculate cubic meters for one carton or a mixed shipment. Add cargo rows, quantities and optional weights.

How it works

Use this tool when the same package volume needs to be communicated in different units. It calculates the volume of the rectangular envelope first, then converts that value for display.

Add a row for each distinct size and specify its quantity. This preserves the distinction between volume per package and volume for the whole batch. Optional weight fields provide a separate mass total without changing the volume.

Cubic units scale differently from linear units: doubling all three dimensions multiplies volume by eight. Converting a volume therefore requires a cubic conversion factor, not the factor used for a single edge.

Formula

Package volume = length × width × height; shipment volume = sum of each package volume × quantity

Inputs are normalized before calculation. Results are rounded for display.

Worked example

A 50 × 40 × 30 cm package has a volume of 0.06 m³, which is 60 liters or about 2.119 ft³. Twenty such packages occupy 1.2 m³, or 1,200 liters.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The rectangular envelope can include empty space around irregular items.
  • Outer shipping volume differs from the useful internal capacity of a carton.
  • This result measures volume and does not establish fit, safe stacking or a shipping price.

Frequently asked questions

How many liters are in a cubic meter?

One cubic meter is exactly 1,000 liters. A volume of 0.06 m³ is therefore 60 liters.

How is this different from the CBM calculator?

Both use the same rectangular volume calculation. This page emphasizes displaying package volume in m³, ft³ or liters; the CBM tool emphasizes shipment totals in cubic meters.

Can I combine different package units?

Yes. Select the correct length unit for each row. Each row is normalized before totals and output-unit conversions are calculated.
