Pallet sizes

Reference dimensions for two documented EPAL pallet types. Choose the footprint and constraints that match your actual handling unit.

A size is not a loading approval. Pallet condition, support, handling method and load distribution matter. Confirm the permitted load for the specific pallet and operation.

Footprint and height serve different purposes

The footprint sets the available rectangle for a carton layer. The pallet height must be added to cargo height when checking a total loaded-height limit. In the pallet calculator, “Maximum cargo height above pallet” excludes the pallet itself.

For example, a 1,500 mm overall height limit minus a 144 mm pallet leaves 1,356 mm above the deck before additional packing or clearance allowances.

Load figures need context

The table reproduces the published safe working load for each reference type. It does not calculate the effect of a damaged pallet, concentrated cargo, racking, multiple stacked pallets or dynamic handling. Do not substitute a stacking load or another support-condition rating for the appropriate cargo payload.

Carton weight and allowable payload are editable in the calculator. If cargo weight is unknown, a space-based estimate cannot establish whether the load is within its weight limit.

Source notes

The Euro pallet footprint is stored as 1,200 mm length × 800 mm width. EPAL labels the same rectangle with the opposite length/width convention on its page; the footprint is unchanged. These are documented examples, not a claim that all pallets in a region have these dimensions.

After planning a loaded pallet, use the loading meter calculator for a footprint equivalent or the CBM calculator for its full transport envelope.
